Let’s be real. Sometimes the battle can be pretty fierce. Fear can come in and grip our hearts, causing us to wonder if we’ll make it through? It can be a scary and lonely place, but I want to remind you that you’re never alone. We serve a God that is always with us. He loves us so much that He numbers the hairs on our heads. We may not always feel Him nearby, but we can be sure that He’s closer than our very breath. He promises to never leave us and no matter what we face, we we’ll always overcome with Him.
Still, in the midst of the battle, we can lose sight of this. This is when we must go to our knees in prayer because that’s where our fiercest battles will be won. Prayer is more than just a nice thing to do. It’s actually one of the greatest weapons God has given us. This is why it is listed in Ephesians 6 with the rest of our spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:10-19).
Prayer brings us to a place of surrender in our lives. It’s where we say to God, “I can’t, but You can.” Prayer releases our problems into God’s hands and frees us to receive our comfort, peace and strength from Him. Sometimes we try fix our own problems, but God is saying, “Let me handle it, my child.”
When we pray, we place ourselves in the position to receive Heavenly strategies on how to win the battles we face. So remember, prayer is not just speaking, but listening as well. It’s a 2-way conversation between you and God. And God wants to download straight to your spirit the wisdom needed to succeed in life. When you hear His whisper in your heart, you’ll always be amazed because God’s ways are so much Higher than ours. He’ll bring clarity where there was confusion and lead you in the right way to go.
And there’s more! Prayer releases Divine power in our lives and in the lives of those we pray for. James 5:16b says, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” The Greek word for “effective” is “energeo” which mean to produce something; to cause to function or bring about. And the word for “avail” is “ischyo” which means to have power. So know this…when you pray God’s Word, you can be confident you are releasing a power that will bring about God’s will in your life. God’s Word always produces! (Isaiah 55:11)
Your prayers may start off like mine when in the midst of the battle…”GOD HELP!!!” And that’s ok, because God always hears and answers our cry. Psalm 18:6 says, “In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.” I find comfort in that. But we can also release power through our prayers. Maybe your prayers will end like this, “Lord, I don’t know what to do in this situation but I thank You that your Word says I have the mind of Christ. I may feel afraid but I choose to put my trust in You, because Your Word promises that NO weapon formed against me will prosper. I declare over my life that I am more than a conqueror with You and nothing can separate me from Your love Lord. I will walk in the favor, the health, and the victory You promise me because Your promises are always yes and amen and I claim them all for my life!”
Child of God, the battle may be raging in your life right now, but remember you’re never alone. God is with you and your fiercest battle will be won on your knees.
“For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer…” 1 Peter 3:12b
